Welcome to Start 2 Continue’s changelog newsletter, where we update you on everything going on with us each month and share helpful insight to improve your personal and professional life.

Since this is our first issue, here’s what we’ll be talking about today:

  • What is a changelog — and why are we doing them now?

  • Start 2 Continue as a “strategy hub for personal and professional development.”

  • Blending game theory with entrepreneurship and life coaching.

Before we dive in further, a little disclaimer:

While these newsletters are going to be released on a monthly basis for now, this is the first step in a much longer adventure. As I get better at knowing how to write and build newsletters, what this one looks like and what the ones at the end of the year look like will probably be very different.

However, there’s a point to this.

I’m a big believer in building out in the open. I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I try to start something new, I get paralyzed overthinking about perfection. Everything needs to be just right before I let anyone see it. But new beginnings are messy and awkward, but they rarely remain so. In that spirit, I want to prove to you that overthinking like that shouldn’t hold you back from what you want to do. And if I can awkwardly put together a newsletter — a real newsletter, not just blog posts masquerading as a newsletter like before — well, we can just do things and have fun doing them.

With that in mind, thank you for coming along with me on this leg of the journey. I hope you stick around while I get used to this kind of content. But hey, at least it’s fun.

Also, a special thank you to the newsletter subscribers and S2C’s clients. It’s been a pleasure working with you and creating things together.

Thought of the Day

“Stop being afraid of what could go wrong, and start being excited about what could go right.”

Tony Robbins

The fear of failure is pretty common; “what will happen if things don’t go according to plan?” is a question, in some form or another, everyone’s asked themselves at least once. But what if things go right?

In fact, what if they don’t go according to plan but end up even better? All too often, we find ourselves blessed with what the universe knows we need instead of what we thought we wanted to begin with.

Please reflect on the following:

  • What would your life look like if failure wasn’t an option you entertained? That the only ultimate outcomes were either succeeding now or succeeding later on?

  • Was there ever a time when you thought you wanted something and realized it was the wrong thing to want? What did you do when you realized that?

  • Where does your fear of failure come from? What keeps you from letting go of it — and do you want to let go of it anyway?

The Purpose of the Changelog

If you’re already a member of our Discord community, monthly changelogs aren’t a new thing. However, if this is the first time you’re hearing about this, it’s… well… pretty much what it sounds like: an update of all the changes that have happened with S2C, whether it’s a new system we rolled out for the Discord, a new series of merch items to snag on our store, or a summary of content highlights over the past month.

But Start 2 Continue isn’t just our Discord community. Over 2025, we’ve pivoted our brand into a unique niche where gaming (and, more specifically, game theory) remains in our brand’s DNA but we’ve finally found a way to apply that creatively to help people of all kinds, in every industry and niche, with any goal they have.

Now, you don’t have to belong to the Discord. In fact, if you’re not already there, it’s probably not the place you wanna hang out (though if you’re into gaming and Discord’s ecosystem, by all means, come on down). But this newsletter, our website (both its blog and the self-serve resource wiki we’re working on), our social media, and our services are other spokes of the hub that is Start 2 Continue that we haven’t been focusing on nearly as much OR just thinking about them in a vacuum rather than as parts of a whole engine.

This newsletter isn’t meant to be a monthly pat-on-the-back either — though we will be sharing fun milestones as we achieve them. Instead, it’s a way to continue to bring all the parts of Start 2 Continue together, helping us better serve you and anyone else who resonates with what we’re trying to accomplish.

And what is that? Well… keep reading.

From Indie Video Game Reviews to Executive Strategy and Life Coaching

Start 2 Continue began as a weird college project in 2013 between Tanner Colley, Anthony “Heyliger” Jamass, and Tony “Metz” Magestro. Unimpressed by the state of games journalism and the lack of ethics, from how games and the industry are talked about and treated to the crescendo of toxicity that eventually led to Gamergate, we wanted to focus on the creative indie developers who often were outshined in favor of mediocre titles with big PR budgets.

We loved finding the small 1-, 2-, 6-people studios and sharing the stories of their games and the creators behind them: what it was like to moonlight as a game designer while holding down a job they increasingly hated; how they kept focus while creating something with virtually no budget; what it felt like to finally release their creation after years in obscurity.

All we knew is we wanted to help people. And while Start 2 Continue has changed a lot, that mission hasn’t.

Fast forward to 2026 and Metz has changed Start 2 Continue from an indie video game news and review site to a strategy hub for personal and professional development. Gamers are a very driven kind of people. They understand objectives, strategies, teamwork, and communication — albeit, to varying degrees. But even if you’re not a gamer, taking control over the trajectory of your life requires you to think like one.

I’m not talking about gamifying things like giving yourself experience points or little rewards for getting chores done (though that’s definitely helpful if you struggle with executive dysfunction). I’m talking about understanding probabilistic math, knowing how to analyze which option to choose out of a set of them, how to identify the outcome you want, and then match that with the option that has the best chance of making that happen.

Gamer or not, everyone does this subconsciously. We’ve just made it a business to teach people how to do this consciously, consistently, and with much more power than stumbling around hoping to be successful solely through chance.

Game Theory, Ikigai, and Building the Life You Want

Though we’ve explained our rationale on our website’s homepage, here’s our little cheat sheet summary:

  • Game theory is the source code that runs the engine of life. If you’ve ever met someone who always seems lucky, chances are that game theory is the root cause. Sure, luck is a factor, but you can create your own luck by knowing all the other factors you have direct and indirect control over.

  • Ikigai is the Japanese concept of finding what makes one’s life worth living by balancing four components — what you love; what you’re skilled at; what others need; and what you can be paid for.

  • Blending these two concepts allows you to build a roadmap to success as you define it in a way that can be measured and adapted, no matter what you’re trying to do, what skills and experience you have, or much anything else.

And so, Start 2 Continue assists people of all kinds accomplish their personal and professional goals, either by teaching you, working together with you, or even (in some cases) doing the busy work for you so you can focus on what you’re skilled at and enjoy.

Freelancers, gamers, content creators, business owners, and professionals both underemployed and doing well on paper but feeling like there’s something more to life — the core of almost all problems stems from either an imbalance of ikigai or a misunderstanding of game theory.

As 2026 begins, we’re going all in on helping as many people as we can and reaching them where they are. The only question I have for you is… if life’s a game, what’s keeping you from playing it well?

Discord Community Updates

Content Campaign Rollout: we’re back on the content wagon again after a months-long hiatus. In addition to our blog and newsletter, we’ll also be adding more gaming content on YouTube (mostly community highlights but eventually Metz will be adding strategy guides to his own gaming channel). We’ve also updated our YouTube channel to “Start 2 Continue Gaming” since modern social media algos prefer niching down on content; once we have an understanding of the more professional strategy content, we’ll have a YouTube channel for that too but that’s still on the drawing board. Refreshes of Facebook and Instagram are also planned but… one step at a time.

Local Events Calendar

There are no local events scheduled for January 2026. We’ll be back with our regular programming in February.

  • If you’re a local business or organization in Whatcom or Skagit County in Northwestern Washington that’d like us to post your event on our calendar, please reach out to us through our contact form.

Until Next Time!

Thank you for joining us for our first proper newsletter. As someone who’s done all kinds of writing, this format has been one I have had the least amount of practice with so… I appreciate getting to practice with you.

In the meantime, keep being awesome,

Tony “Metz” Magestro | Co-Founder and Executive Strategist, Start 2 Continue
